YORUM: If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. I bought this book to have a single book I could study from during breaks or while away from home. It's good for just that, but it is by no means complete. It has served me as a good introductory text for some subjects that I find a little harder to approach, such as biochemistry. After reading these sections of the book, I was able to study from other sources more easily. However, if you master certain subjects and come back to this book, you'll find it absolutely lacking in details (for example, the chapter on cardiology says practically nothing about arrhythmias except for atrial fibrillation, nor does it even mention EKG tracings and the physiology of the EKG waves). Also, like someone mentioned, it has some blatant errors (some like "interphalangeal phalangeal joint", repeated at least three times in the same chapter), and some less obvious one, but after having read over half the book I haven't seen any errors that any sane person wouldn't notice.
If you want a book you can pick up, read for five minutes and feel like you actually learned something, this is a good buy. It's good for light, on-the-run reading and like I said, it works well to introduce certain topics. It might be a good buy around the time you're starting med school, but is NOT a complete source for studying for Step 1. Also, it isn't updated as frequently as other books, nor could I find a list of errors online, like First Aid has.
Conclusion: More expensive than other (more complete) books but a lot easier to read. Less details, focuses mostly on high-yield stuff, good for studying little by little, but is lacking in many departments. Some errors throughout the text, but as far as I can tell they aren't terrible and they are easy to pick up. Not good for actual hardcore studying for Step 1, but definitely good for the preamble to real studying or for moments when you don't have your "real" books with you.

Yorum 2:This is an excellent resource! If you are anything like me, First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 can get really boring really fast because of its mind-numbing format. USMLE Secrets, however, keeps me engaged. With First Aid, I found myself taking their word for granted and trying just to memorize their lists of facts, whether they were correct or not. With Secrets, I feel like I am getting a great overview of how the material is integrated and presented in a clinical way. This book is much more than case studies! It is a great way to prepare for the boards. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there are some errors throughout the book. There is not a website like there is for First Aid telling you where the errata are. However, unlike First Aid, I was able to catch the errors because of contradictions with the "big picture" that was presented in the book. Overall, I love this book and highly recommend it to any Med2 preparing for the boards and transition into Med3.

Yorumlar:
Yorum 1: This book was great to read when sick of looking at First Aid. It concentrates more about the 'why' than the 'what,' which is what First Aid tests. Wish I would have had it earlier during M2 year to supplement course work.
