As a student in the Ph.D. Program at Mayo Graduate School, you’ll discover an exciting environment of academic inquiry and scientific discovery, combined with exceptional intellectual and technological resources designed to help you achieve your highest scientific career goals.
Broad curriculum
Aspiring biomedical scientists must acquire a broad background of knowledge and expertise as well as in-depth understanding of their primary area of research interest. As an investigator, your interests will continue to evolve throughout your career, and unforeseen avenues of research will appear. The Ph.D. Program core curriculum will prepare you for this constantly changing scientific world by providing the broad knowledge base needed. Most students complete the core courses during the first year while doing laboratory rotations, during which you’ll build technical skills and identify a thesis mentor.
Balanced training
Mayo Graduate School primarily emphasizes research training. Classroom experience, however, is an integral component of the Ph.D. Program, providing the intellectual foundation necessary for well-rounded scientists. Each area of specialization, therefore, offers you advanced courses built on the framework set by the core curriculum.
Flexible
Mayo Graduate School provides stipends and full-tuition scholarships for all Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. students. Thus you have exceptional flexibility in choosing research mentors.
Mayo Graduate School offers a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences with an emphasis in one of seven areas of specialization:
