Thank you for your interest in the Cleveland Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Training Program.
Craig Nielsen, MD, FACP
Our program provides a comprehensive experience in an academically oriented setting. Such training enables our graduates to pursue careers in academic or clinical general internal medicine, or to continue training in one of the subspecialties of internal medicine. The specific goals of the training program include:
To develop the intellectual and personal attributes necessary to promote professional growth and lifelong learning.
To provide outstanding education in the diagnosis and management of medical problems spanning the spectrum of general internal medicine in the framework of humanism, professionalism, and the cost-effective practice of medicine.
To cultivate personal development of each resident physician participating in the training program. To maximize the opportunities for residents to obtain practice opportunities or competitive fellowship program positions at the completion of their residency training.
The faculty at the Cleveland Clinic are uniquely suited to achieve these goals. They are full-time clinicians who are deeply committed to teaching both residents and students. The academic environment formed by the interaction of residents with faculty and medical students enhances patient care and fosters a vigorous learning environment. Many of the medicine faculty are nationally and internationally known for their research activities and continue this commitment by mentoring resident research projects.
The Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University enrolled its first class of physicians in July 2004. The Cleveland Clinic is the main training site for these students. The Residency Program has developed a close relationship with the Medical School to assure excellent experience for both our residents and students.
We look forward to you exploring our website and viewing the variety of opportunities that we can offer to you.
Sincerely,
Craig Nielsen, MD, FACP.
