Review:
Neuroscience is a difficult subject to master and many books do a poor job of teaching it and an even worse job of applying it clinically. This book is the lesser of two evils. It delivers the material that you need to know in a bullet point format that is typical of other review books, but it tends to add in more clinically relevant material than other neuroscience review books. It includes info on sleeping and comatose patients that is scantly found in other books, but very useful information to have as you progress into a medical career. These topics are commonly found on shelf exams and USMLE. Some of these topics are rarely introduced in medical school neuroscience classes but are frequently covered in behavioral science books. The board review series behavioral science book does a much better job of covering these topics. In other words, this book is almost a hybrid of the two. It delivers the neuroscience info but it also gives relevant topics from other areas. Hence the name "neuroscience" rather than "neurology". Given the difficulty of the topics in neurology, I still think this book will present a lot of work for a beginner trying to learn neurology. Overall, this book would make a fairly good choice for a med student, which I would recommend over the board review series neuro book. However, I would still recommend the high-yield neuro book even more and would leave the other topics not covered in this book to the BRS behavioral science.
